the best and the worst

the best is a four day weekend.....the worst is going back to work on a Tuesday and having a super delightful MONDAY!....  Oh it has been one.  See it is the end of the fiscal year so we have a month to get all our i's dotted and t's crossed.

Plus it is conference season, so every 5 minutes someone needs all their travel arranged and approved.

Plus it is Marijuana growing season......and with all this rain lately you can just bet there are some very big happy growing plants up in them thar hills just waiting for us to find and destroy...... ..... So to say we are busy is to say the least.......

Good thing I LOVE my job.....and the people (at least most) I work with.

Happy Monday I mean Tuesday everyone!

Only a teeny tiny bit dramatic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*WARNING* this post contains mild, I mean very mild hints of sarcasm*

oh the drama.....  Makes me appreciate the impatience that another mother had many years ago of a very dramatic and a slight hypochondriac of a daughter.

So Monday I ended up spending the entire day with my daughter (yay!) at doctor's office's (boo).  She has been complaining of a sore ankle and hobbling around so I decided I better take her in.  Of course the doctor checks it, and bends it, and pokes it.  Does this hurt?  He then says well I don't think it is broken but we better get some x-rays just to be sure.  I want her on crutches for the rest of the week so it can heal, probably a bad sprain.  Hi ho hi ho it's off to the lab we go.  Then over to the home health store to get crutches.

Going back to my first sentence.....

When I was in 7th grade and slightly (I mean only the tiniest bit) dramatic.  I was babysitting and the kids had gone to bed so I was kickin' back watchin some t.v. (Nick at Night or HBO) I set my foot on the armrest of the sofa and YIKES!!! PAIN OWWW OWW OWW!  I look at my foot and a long (I mean like at least 3"s long) sewing needle is sticking out of my heel instant reaction I pulled it out.  The needle was broken......what the?  hmmm wonder if it was broken before?  So it hurt, when I got home I told my mom and she looked at it and we bandaged it up.  The pain didn't go away, it was swollen and throbbing and I hobbled around (ever so quietly no complaining or whining, because as we know I was only a teeny tiny bit dramatic).  A few days went by, my mom was finally like ENOUGH, we will get you to the doctor.

So my Grandpa Laursen (ever so heroic) took me to the clinic they did an x-ray sure a- freakin- nough there is like a 1/2 inch needle floating around inside my foot.  They had to cut the sucker out.....I had to have stitches.....and I had to stay off of it for a week (I immediately translated that) to10 days not because I was a slight hypochondriac or would enjoy the attention but only because I really wanted my foot to get better.  (I mean getting to leave class early to make it to my next class or the lunch line was of no importance.)

Wow crutches suck!  but you know how I sooo did not enjoy the extra attention I hobbled around on those suckers with the armpit pain and one socked foot I mean seriously I did have stitches!

back to Monday........

My daughter whom I love, and in so very many ways takes after her mom with her nonchalant, only a teeny tiny bit dramatic, and non attention seeking ways.  Is now hobbling around on crutches, with one socked foot, and armpit pain, for the next week (I could have sworn the doctor said for the rest of the week, hmm must have missed the translation).

At least it will be a non-dramatic, no whining, or complaining, quiet week, after all she does take after her mother.

what was that?  what Kod?  your teacher calls you slow-poke, well no attention there.

The Great Salt Lake

Last week I got a ride home and ended up being taken on a little excursion first.  The Great Salt Lake is literally 5 minutes from my work yet I haven't been out there forever.  So I took some pictures and decided I wanted to get my facts straight so here goes:

This is the Saltair now 2011.  The land this building now sits on has seen a multitude of tragedy.  There have been fire's, and floods.  The original building was completed in 1893.  How amazing is that?  It was deamed the "Coney Island of the West"

Here is a link for current information on what goes on out there in that building because as you can see from the picture I took last week, there is life in there!  http://www.thesaltair.com  There is also some really interesting historical information.

Great Salt Lake,  it was windy by this time so it looks kinda icky.
Antelope Island.  You get there by going into Davis County towards Layton and down through Clearfield and Syracuse ( I have never been there(Goal for this year)).
This is the original Saltair.  See all the people floating in the water?  The Great Salt Lake is the 2nd saltiest lake in the world.
This is just an old postcard of the original Saltair.

This is the second Saltair burning down in November 1970.

"The Great Salt Lake is the largest natural lake west of the Mississippi River. At the current level the Great Salt Lake is approximately 75 miles long and about 35 miles wide. Bridger Bay is where many people come to float like a cork because you cannot sink in the Great Salt Lake." (http://www.utah.com/stateparks/great_salt_lake_facts.htm)

I hope you weren't bored but I wanted to share a little interesting information about a pretty cool place right here in my back yard.

the Struggle......

One year ago I participated in the race for the cure and I looked like this....

I thought I looked so gross and yucky.....hence the sharpie.  I thought this is my wake-up call for me to take action.  I am going to lose weight.

I missed the race this year because our service unit had the Girl Scout's Never the Same Weekend (camp overnight-er).

Not to bad, better camera angle for sure however....... still GROSS

 Yep getting the angle down....

My sweet girl friends...... Ah yes there it is the nastiness I want to rid myself of.

A bunch of the guys I work with have been doing a low/no carb diet and I started last week.  So far I am down 10.5 lbs.  I took mother's day off.  I wasn't all that good while camping either but I didn't really have any control of the food they served.  So I am using my ticker to follow my weight loss.  One pound at a time!  I am going to come up with a list of goals and a reward for reaching them.  Wish me luck......

I want to be this fat again....... I am the one in the pink.  I thought I was ginormous....ridiculous.
Wow look at that hair ladies.  We were HOT!

Our Pets

So Kodie has been begging to go to the park and I told her we could go last night.  I told her she had to clean the Guinea Pig cage after school.  When I got home I asked her if it was done.....instant "oh no I forgot face" I told her to get it done or we couldn't go to the park (perfect plan, because then there was no complaining or arguing).

Lucky for you we didn't take any pre-cleaning picts.....yuck!

They love their clean house.  We will stuff the whole top full of shredded paper for them to play and chew.

This is Rose

and Petunia

Bella hoping that Kodie will drop something, preferably a pig that she could "play" with.

Priss staying out of the way.

We have had our Pigs for 4 years, we got Petunia first and then Rose so Petunia wouldn't be lonely (I recommend this to anyone considering joining pig world 2 is better than one, just make sure they are the same sex!).

Bella likes to make sure that everything gets cleaned up and nothing/no one is still in the cage.  She is a good inspector.

Also my daughters room was "clean" two days ago.  10 year olds can make things messy in a flash.
